When viewership goes down there is less income. Shows generally get more expensive to produce as time goes on.
This could cause major budget issues.

Stana Katic And Tamala Jones Leaving the show. One of the reasons Castle was such a strong player is the Castle and Beckett relationship. Without the pair many many fans felt like the show was over.

Paul Lee was in charge of ABC from 2010 until recently. He inherited Castle from his predecessor, but it grew to be an ABC staple during his reign. However, Paul Lee recently stepped down.
